Product publication
The product status shows whether the product is ready for the public catalog or is still being prepared.
In Product management, there are usually Drafts, Published, and Archive tabs.
Draft
Draft is suitable for preparing a product.
In draft, it is convenient to:
- fill in the name and description;
- choose a category;
- add images;
- check price, discount, and stock;
- fill in required category fields;
- calmly fix mistakes before publication.
A draft should not be sent to buyers as a ready product.
Published product
A Published product may be displayed on the storefront if visibility conditions are met.
Publishing a product by itself does not guarantee that the buyer will immediately see it. These also matter:
- active shop;
- available storefront;
- the selected category and all of its parents are published;
- filled required fields;
- correct price;
- product stock;
- image and description, if they are needed for a clear card.
Archive
Archive removes the product from the active catalog but keeps its details in the cabinet.
Use archive if the product no longer needs to be sold or shown to buyers. If the product is needed again, return it to drafts, check the details, and publish it again.
Available actions
Depending on the product status, the cabinet may show actions:
Publish;To draftsorReturn to drafts;To archive;Return to draftsfor an archived product.
If an action is unavailable, check the current product status and cabinet hints.
The category also has a status
The category has its own status. You can choose a draft category for a draft product, but the selected category and every parent category must be published before you publish the product.
When a published category is returned to draft, published subcategories in its active branch and products in that branch may also become drafts. If the impact is not empty, the cabinet shows counts and the list of affected products before confirmation. Publishing the category again does not publish subcategories or products automatically: review and publish them manually, starting with parent categories. Archiving a category remains a separate action with its own warning.
A product that a buyer added to the cart before this change may remain there for viewing or removal, but it cannot be checked out while it is a draft.
What to check before publication
Before publishing a product, check that:
- the correct category is selected;
- the selected category and every parent category are already published;
- the product name has no mistakes;
- price and discount look correct;
- stock is filled in;
- the primary image is uploaded;
- required category fields are filled in;
- the description is clear to the buyer;
- the product is not archived.
After publication, open the storefront or product card as a buyer. If the product did not appear, check the category status, shop status, and visibility conditions, not only the product status itself.
What to do if...
The product cannot be published
Open the product and check required fields, price, stock, category, and images. If the selected category or one of its parents is still a draft, publish the category path from the top down first or explicitly save the product as a draft. If the cabinet shows a hint, start with it.
The product is published but not visible on the storefront
If the product is listed as published, check the shop status and the other storefront visibility conditions. After a category or one of its parents is returned to draft, the product also becomes a draft: publish categories from the top down, then republish the product. Restore an archived branch through its separate action first.
The product ended up in archive
Return the product to drafts, if the action is available. Then check the details and publish again only after reviewing the card.
The buyer sees old details
Make sure changes are saved. Then refresh the storefront page. If the buyer opened the page earlier, ask them to refresh the page or open the link again.
